Stats Examination #1 — Descriptives; Normal Curve
January 31, 2006
Stat Scholars,
Our first examination will be on Tuesday, February 7th. Feel free to come up to the HNS lab early that day if you feel you might need some extra time. I will try and be there no later than 7:30.
I’ll see everyone on Thursday to wrap up our material and answer any questions that you might have.
Ch1. What is cognition?
January 30, 2006
Gary Bradshaw and crew at Miss State have developed this site to help explain many classic and new ideas in psychology. Excellent for intro psych students and upper level students that might need some phenomenologial help with hypothetical constructs. Plus it’s kinda fun for us geeks
psychology intro cog3310 academic learning ch1 university experimental cognitive scienceI tried to tag it into disciplines and classes (psychology, intro, experimental, cognitive science) and put in labels of appropriateness (academic, university). I also tagged specifically for this class (cog3310, ch1). I should probably add more tags as I explore the site and find resources on specific topics that I want to share. I’m sure I could get a wealth of information off the site map.
Merlot — Materials listed under Psychology –> Cognitive
MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) is a searchable collection of simulation, experiment, and explanation sites for a variety of topics in Higher Education including Psychology. 42 MERLOT submissions have been classified as Cognitive. Others would fit with our needs, but inly one category can be chosen so browse the entire site. This would be a great resources to check if you have a presentation to make and would like to do something interactive.
psychology cognition cognitive academics university simulations science cog3310 ch1
My thoughts were to tag this as a general psychology/academic/university quality resources. I also wanted to associate it with cognition and cognitive science. In addition I added our class tag and ch1 to help me remember where to share it with you guys and future cognition classes. My only functional tag seems to be simulations, perhaps indicated what I can potentially do there. It will be interesting to see if I start to label sites, informational/educational/explanational/etc.

Cognition Commenting problems have been simplified.
January 26, 2006
Scholars,
After some control panel clicking and template changes I am making progress toward simplifying your life (or at least the part where you waste time trying to make me happy).
You no longer have to type in hyperlinks using html. Just paste the hyperlink into the comment as you would an email, etc. and it will (read should) magically appear as a clickable URL.
I’ve tested it and it works for me.
I really liked the pirate template but the CSS wasn’t set up for commenting on “pages”. I may try and edit it at a later date because I love the flying spaghetti monster and all, but not today. I’ll try and not confuse you again this week. Next week will be a different story

favor — non-academic post
January 26, 2006
I went up to Cleveland yesterday and met an antique dealer that graduated, oddly enough, from NGCSU in the 80s with a psychology degree.
Long story short, after talking about Dr. Noble for a while, I bought an old cabinet that will not fit into my Xterra.
Here comes the favor part:
Would anyone like to trade vehicles for an afternoon? I’ll swap you my very fast and luxurious Acura 3.2 CL S-type for use of your truck for an afternoon. I’ll also replace your gas. I will not pay any speeding tickets you might get in my car.
Thanks, C

Cognition — del.icio.us accounts and our first collaborative task
January 24, 2006
Cognition Scholars,
Looks like most of you are doing a great job! Well over half the class has been able to follow my directions and have shared their del.icio.us accounts on this page: del.icio.us accounts.
If you have shared your info but do not see it on this page I most likely deleted your post because it was incorrectly formatted. Check the comments for your post. Feel free to submit it again.
I will be creating our first social bookmarking task today to accompany chapter 1 in our text. You may read about the task and share here.
I will go over how to share again during class (1.24.2006). Please bring your questions this afternoon. This is really easy credit if you don’t get behind and keep up over the course of the semester.

stats — very advance notice on a change in venue
January 23, 2006
Scholars,
Just a quick note for your calendars. On March 30th, we will not hold class in HNS 152. Most of the building is being used for a leadership conference that day. On this particular Thursday we will meet in Dunlap 104.

Scholars,
I’ll be participating in a basketball game to raise money for cancer research this evening. If you’d like to see me prance around and demonstrate my mad elevator hops then bring $3 to the gym long about 7:30.
Good Morning!
Just a reminder that the faculty/student basketball game is tonight January 23rd at 7:30pm in the gym. ALL proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. Thank you for your participation!
See you tonight,
