An opportunity for the creative among us…
February 26, 2006
FYI — I’m just passing this along. Feel free to run your ideas by me and we’ll pass them on up the line.
TO: ADP Participants
FROM: Mary-Kathryn McKenna, AASCU; Felice Nudelman, The New York Times
SUBJECT: New Civic Engagement Slogan for 2006 ADP T-Shirt
Last year The New York Times gave out black t-shirts that read “Are You Engaged?” on the front and the “American Democracy Project” on the back. Because of the popularity of the t-shirts, we have decided to print another set of t-shirts this year. This time, we want a student from one of our ADP campuses to create the slogan.
The student and his or her institution will be be awarded a prize at the ADP National Meeting in Snowbird, UT, June 15-17, 2006 where the new t-shirts will also be distributed. The name of the designer and his or her institution will appear on the t-shirt.
Please submit your slogan to Mary-Kathryn with the name of the creator, institution, and contact information. Please be sure to make the proposed slogan obvious by separating it from any other text.
The deadline for slogan submission is March 10, 2006.
We hope to see many imaginative and creative suggestions. Please distribute this email to appropriate people on your campus.
Sincerely,
Mary-Kathryn McKenna ( mckennam@aascu.org )

Gone Again
February 23, 2006
Scholars,
I’m learning stuff at the Society of Teaching and Learning. Perhaps I will share some of it with you.
My congratulations to Lauren McCutchen on a successful poster presentation.
No Intro class on Friday as I will not be back on time. Start reading (you should have already) the material related to physiology (bio-psych). I enjoyed the lecture on Wednesday. I will clarify when we get together again.

Thursday Update from prof_chuck
February 16, 2006
Scholars,
Just a quick update so that everyone knows what is going on….
Cognition Exam #1 is this afternoon in Dunlap 104 at 3:30. It covers our introduction, perception, and attention. Good luck! I left you a note on the side board.
Intro psych will not meet tomorrow as I am giving a presentation off campus. I’d like for all of you to use this time to drop in the library. Find yourself a reference librarian and ask them how you would research a topic in psychology. Specifically, ask them what databases you should use to find quality materials. I will ask you about it in the future. Perhaps include it as a question on your final exam ![]()
Stat folk, well you don’t get a break this week. I’m about to see y’all and we are going to go over one sample t-tests.
Statistics: Read chapter 9
February 11, 2006
Statistic Scholars. You need to read chapter 9. You might need to read it twice.
I’d suggest the following: 1) read chapter nine, 2) come to class and experience the concepts with me, work through some problems with me, 3) read chapter nine again.
I’ve also made several readings about hypothesis testing available on reserve in the Library. They are in the solutions notebook.

Cognition note: Social bookmarking and your first examination.
February 11, 2006
Scholars,
I’ve been having a lot of fun in class lately. I find the topics fascinating. I hope you do too.
I’ve put up the pages for you to share your del.icio.us bookmarks for the chapter on perception and the chapter on attention.
In addition, Remember that you are to share no later than Tuesday afternoon. That will give your peers time to use your bookmarks as a study aid if they are confused about a topic/idea/hypothetical construct that is relevant to our material.
The test (on Thursday Feb 16th) will be multiple guess and will include several applied questions that will require critical thinking. I’ll have somewhere between 40 and 50 questions on the exam, so you should have more than enough time to complete the examination if you are prepared and know the material.
See you on Tuesday.

Stats Examination #1
February 6, 2006
No questions in our last class, thought I’d share this email question will all of you:
“Hey Chuck!
Am I loosing my mind or did you say that we can have a formula card to use on our stats test…Please say that we can!”
The formatting of the test is in two distinct sections.
Part 1 is a closed book examination. You will answer multiple choice questions and solve very simple problems that require a minimum level of critical thinking.
Part 2 is open book and open note (use anything except your neighbor/tutor). You will be solving problems very similar to the ones we worked together on the board, as homework from the text, and/or from my extra handouts.

SEPA hotel reservations
February 3, 2006
just sharing a note from our friend Rosemary:
Please make hotel reservations for SEPA at the Atlanta Hilton as
soon as possible, no later than February 14. After that date, the
convention rate may not be assured or rooms may not be available.
Our SEPA program is strong, Atlanta has many fine attractions, and
our $132 rate this year is a bargain. Reservations can be made through
the SEPA Web site at http://www.sepaonline.com (group code SEP) or
by contacting the hotel directly and identifying yourself as a SEPA
attendee. Please contact the SEPA office (850-474-2070, sepa@uwf.edu)
if you experience any problems in registering.
