AlchoholEdu

September 19, 2006

Hey Scholars (mostly in my learning community / SFCS class),

Here’s the deal on the Alchohol.edu program being run by student affairs.

I am advising you to take the course and at the same time complain about the ethics of it. I’d hate to see a hold put on your banner account preventing you from registering just because of this program that blackmails you to participate.
Part one is supposed to be completed by tomorrow (sept 20th). Suck it up and do it. Perhaps a major project for our learning community would be designing the distribution of this course in a better way.

1. Login in using the following code: 6C140669FIRSTYEAR

2. Be sure and have your NGCSU email and 9 digit ID number ready for the registration page. This will allow the university to know that you have completed this course. If you don’t have a university issued ID don’t even bother taking the course, you won’t get credit. You can log in and out of the course, but be sure and click the next button to start a new section before logging out (or you will have to work through that section all over again :-( ).

Good Luck. As you know I am in the dark and have little to no information about this program. As I find out more I will share it with you.

Collaboration rules… prof_chuck

Edit: I’m taking the course right now. The media is running in a tab while I’m typing this…

2nd Edit: I elected not to use the flash player… I can read the case studies faster than having them read to me.

3rd Edit: Let’s collect the test questions and discuss them amongst ourselves. I will grab some screen captures when I’m finished. You do the same.

Stat assignment chapter 9

September 19, 2006

Scholars,

Go to the Rice Virtual Lab in Statistics and work on the sampling distribution applet.

It will help you grasp the major concepts of the sampling distribution of the mean. Be sure to notice what happens when you increase your sample size, both for the individual samples that you are plotting out and for the number of samples that you construct your distribution from…

We’ll look at this exercise briefly the next time we meet.

LC — presentation rubric

September 17, 2006

Learning Community Scholars,

This link will get you a pdf file of our rubric for your presentation.

Groups 1, 3, & 5 will go on Wednesday. Groups 2, 4, & 6 will go on Friday.

You will have 15 minutes to impress everyone. Give us 5 minutes of background, 5 minutes of going over the questions, and 5 minutes for questions / defending your design.

Let me know ahead of time if you have any special media needs.

Chuck,

What is going on (cognition) with this information I am sending? I thought it would be good for the class to know, for I don’t have a clue! See you tomorrow.

Seems like an excellent example of the power of top down processing / expectations. Thanks for sharing E.

Yo Scholars,

Some interesting media was created from what I’ve seen so far.

Rather than meet tomorrow I’d like for everyone to work on their media by doing the following.

1). Upload you images to our facebook group (if you haven’t already).

…you might want to clean them up by cropping and removing the red eye, etc.
…you might want to alter/augment/remix them in photoshop or gimp
…other stuff to improve there haughtiness

2). Once the info is up, tag yourself and enjoy.

…approval of the tag will need to made by the uploader.
…I’ll upload the shots from my camera

3). Make a positive comment on a photo with one of your classmates in it. Perhaps someone you don’t know that well.

Stat Exam #1

September 13, 2006

Out first stat test is tomorrow morning, September 14th.

If you’d like to get started early I’ll be there by 7:30. If you know what you are doing you should be fine starting at 8:00 a.m.

Scholars in SFCS,

We will continue to create an archive of media to show how awesome we are today. Rememebr that we are meeting in the Dunlap Lobby. Bring cameras and such. Costumes, while optional, are encouraged ;-)

LC - Group Project #1

September 8, 2006

Collaborative Knowledge Dvelopment Scholars,

I have placed you into groups for your first project. We will be talking about this project in class today (Friday the 8th of Spetemebr). Please figure out how to contact each other and get to work on the following topic:

Create a 10 - 15 item survey on a topic you are interested in related to psychology.

You will present the survey to our class and defend your questions and how you ask your questions. After considering everyones advice you will have the opportunity to improve your survey before we pass it out and collect some data.

I will pass out a presentation rubric prior to your presentation.

You will turn in a hard copy of your survey to Prof Payne on the 12th as part of your course work. You will be making your presentation to our intro class a few meeting periods after that.

This data from your survey will be used in a second project for both your PSYC 1101 and CSCI 1100 classes. You will remain in the same groups for that project, then we will create different groups for the remander of the semester.
